Update #10

11/26/2018

Greetings everyone! It's hard to believe that the marching season is over. I was simply awestruck by the showing of compassion and support you all gave at last Sunday's showcase! Finals being cancelled was extremely unfortunate, but to have over 500 friends, family, and supporters come to the showcase was truly special for the students. Endless thanks to the coaching staff for your dedication to the CHS ROG, to the booster parents for your tireless behind-the-scenes efforts, and to CHS Principal
Mr. Walker for strongly supporting the music program and making the Sunday Showcase a reality!

I do my best to keep these updates brief so you can stay current with the program without needing to read a laborious newsletter. Now that marching season is over the updates will be less frequent, but continue to look for a developing online and social media presence. If you have any questions, I suggest you reply with a separate email and a concise subject title. Simply replying to this mass email can easily get lost or overlooked.

Thanks for reading and Happy Holidays!
- Mr. Reider

Wow, only three more weeks of the marching season! It seems like just yesterday I was meeting the students for the first time at band camp... The Regiment performed another entertaining show at Warren High School this past Saturday. We made a statement to many perennial 4A Finalists that Cerritos means business! Remember, while winning is fun; not winning does not render our performance fruitless. The only thing we can control is our own actions. Students, how are your actions going to help us be the best Regiment of Gold?

Competitive Success!
Congratulations to the Regiment of Gold as our 4A competitive success continues with awards for Best Music, Best Visual, Best Effect, and First Place at the RCC Big Orange Classic! Weekend Recap
We had a wild weekend to start the 2018 season! I couldn't be more proud of the Regiment for having an excellent first show against stiff competition and proving that we deserve to compete amongst the best. A huge thank you to all the volunteers over the weekend! I am inspired by your selflessness and willingness to do whatever it takes to support our students. As I told the band today, our success on Saturday is well deserved and a boost of confidence, but we now must set our sights toward the future, continue to work hard every day, and strive for excellence in everything we do.

Riverside City College - Big Orange Classic - 10/20
The final itinerary is attached. Come out and support the Regiment as we continue our 4A season.

Volunteering
Y'all have been amazing! It's never too late to get involved. Below are links to donate food for concessions and help with logistics. It takes just a moment to complete.

So. Cal. Super Show Moved to Warren High School - October 27th
The competition that was scheduled to be at Veteran's Stadium in Long Beach has been moved to Warren High School in Downey. The tentative itinerary has been attached.

BAND App!
Over the past Friday and Saturday I gave parents updates about logistics during events through the BAND app. For example, on Saturday the Ayala competition was running behind and we left the show site later than anticipated. I made a post with an updated time of arrival that many parents who downloaded the app received through notifications. I strongly encourage everyone to download the BAND app to stay current on last-minute announcements.

Go to: App Store > Search 'BAND' > download 'BAND - Organize Your Groups by Naver Corps.' (it's the icon with the green 'b') > Once dowloaded, Search 'Cerritos HS Regiment of Gold' > Add yourself and set your notifications properly.

Final Donation Due Monday, 10/22 - $100
Your continued financial support has been amazing. Because of you we will be using new guard flags in the show, beautiful props on the field, and customized front ensemble music. Remember to put your students name and six-digit ID# in the memo. Make checks payable to Cerritos High School.
Reminder, Fall donations must be contributed in-full to attend the Spring Performance Trip.

Invoices via Email
You will be receiving invoices this week from <chsmbfinance@gmail.com>.

Spring Performance Trip to San Francisco - April 4th to 7th, 2019!
The optional Spring Performance Trip will be to San Fransisco from April 4th to 7th, 2019! Students will have the opportunity to perform in a world-class concert hall, see a professional music performance, get a tour of Stanford University, and go to California's Great America Theme Park! It will be a really fun trip; however, since it is optional, all Fall donations must be contributed in-full to be eligible to attend. More details coming soon.

Riding the Bus...
Students are expected to ride the bus home after every competition. This past Saturday exceptions were made due to the Homecoming Dance. However, moving forward all students are expected to ride the bus home unless there are extenuating circumstances discussed in advance.

Thanks for reading! I hope to see you at one of our upcoming performances!

The final itinerary for the Ayala competition. Also here is the Spectator's Packet which has the full show line-up, concessions menu, maps, and more. A few important notes about the event:
- Students must feed themselves at the lunch break. With the move to Division 4A comes more time to complete show day tasks. Students will have a long lunch break to relax after the morning rehearsal and refuel for the performance. They are expected to eat a healthy meal and take whatever preparations necessary to have a positive evening.
- Students will also need to feed themselves at the concessions court after the performance. We now perform in the evening and will be staying later to view the 5A bands! To take advantage of this opportunity to learn from the best bands in So. Cal. we will travel to the stadium as a unit, find our seating area, and then dismiss students to get food. Students are expected to watch as many performances as possible while remaining respectfully quiet in the stands.
- Going to Homecoming Dance? If you are attending the dance after our performance, then I must receive an email from your parents with permission to release you. Furthermore, parents, if your are picking up your child, I must see you and your child together, in person, before dismissing. This is to ensure that all students are accounted for.

It's hard to believe that we're already in the last week of September! The Regiment of Gold is making daily strides in their performance; I'm excited for our first show at Ayala HS on August 13th!

Donation #2 - $310 - Due Today!
Thank you for the continued financial support! Because of your contributions we can do things like provide a top notch coaching staff for our students.

T-Shirt Orders Due this Friday 9/28!
We finally have our T-Shirts ready for order! See the design in the attachments below! The attached order form is for family, friends, relatives, pets, neighbors, and all supporters of CHS Music (students have already paid for their shirt with your contribution)! The cost is $20 each. Indicate the number of each size being ordered in the corresponding box, then write the total below. Make sure to write your Student ID# on the check AND the order form! All orders due this Friday, September 28th!

Back To School Night Performance - Tuesday 9/25
The Regiment of Gold musicians will be performing the first two movements of our field show at the Back to School Night opening ceremony! Students will rehearse until 5:30 pm and then move directly to the West Gym to set-up for the performance at 6 pm. After, they will return their equipment to the band room and be free to leave. The CHS Music Boosters will be hosting concessions for the evening and we still need a few volunteers to help! Stop by to lend a hand or grab a bite to eat.

Booster By-Laws Approved and Executive Board in Place!
Congratulations and thank you to everybody involved in creating the Cerritos High School Music Boosters! I am thrilled to be working with dedicated parents as we continue the tradition of having one of the best music program experiences available. Public board meetings are every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the CHS Band Room. The next General Membership meeting will be on Monday, November 5th at 6:30 pm, in the Band Room.

Homecoming & First Competition in Less Than 3 Weeks!
Our first show at Ayala High School is coming up quick! We're currently slated to perform at 7:10 pm on Saturday, October 13th. I will be sending out the tentative itinerary with next week's update.
Start making your homecoming dance travel plans now!

Keep your instrument tuned up!
Just like when a vehicle needs an oil change, instruments also need regular maintenance to function properly and avoid expensive damage. I strongly suggest taking it to a professional for a chemical clean and mechanical adjustments. Simply give the store a call to ask when you can schedule an appointment at a time when student's won't need the instrument for rehearsal and let them know when you need the instrument returned. Below is a list of local music stores; or take it back to the location you rented from.

- Bellflower Music ~ (562) 867-6715
- Morey's Music ~ (562) 420-9532
- Long Beach Woodwinds and Brass ~ (562) 421-0509
